A near drowning in Brevard County happened on the same day rescuers issued a plea for more beach lifeguards.
Cocoa Beach is one beach that would get a year-round lifeguard under an expensive proposal that was debated on Thursday.
The man who was rescued drifted hundreds of yards down the beach before bystanders pulled him out, but there were no lifeguards nearby. A helicopter flew to the scene to aid the injured man.

A very wealthy guy was having a party at his house. He had everything….. tens of millions in the bank, a 500 acre estate in the country, fast cars, fast women, planes, stocks and shares – in short, anything he wanted.
He was also a little eccentric and had filled his swimming pool with crocodiles.
So at the party he and his friends are all standing around drinking and having a laugh next to the pool, but he was bored. He gets up on the lifeguard’s chair and all his friends look up.
He calls for silence and says, "OK, the first person who swims across my pool will get all my money." No one moves.
The guy looks over the crowd and says, "OK, the first person who swims across my pool gets all my money and my house."
Still no one moves. "OK then, the first person that swims across my pool gets all my money, my house, and all my cars and planes." Still, no one moves. Nobody bats an eyelid.
"Ok then, lets make it interesting; all my money, my house, my cars and planes, all of my property, all my stocks, my bonds
and investments and all the women you can handle – everything I own!"
SPLASH!! Someone’s in the pool. Crocodiles are all over him, but he rolls over like tarzan, he’s all over the place, fighting and dodging. There’s some blood, but finally he gets out of the pool on the other side.
The crowd went mad and the rich bloke jumps down from the chair and runs over to him. "That was incredible! I never thought that I would ever see that done!
Do you want the money now or later?"
"I don’t want the money."
"Do you want the house now or later?"
"I don’t want the house."
"Do you want the cars or the planes?"
"Do you want the bonds, stocks and stuff now or later?"
"I don’t want that either."
"Do you want the girls now or later?"
"I don’t want the girls."
The rich man looks at him and says, "Well, what the hell do you want?!?!"
"I want the ****** who pushed me in."
LOL LOL LOL
Too good!! ![]()
In his place tho, I would have forgotten the one who pushed me into the pool and would have happily taken my money.
Well…I talked to an aquatics director of a pretty big water park in the area and he said that he would be more then happy to hire me as long as I can pass the swimming test that’s required for lifeguards and the usual brick dive. Problem is that I am kind of out of shape and the test is at the end of February. I do know how to swim but I need to get faster! I have very limited access to a pool now (being that it is winter) but what can I do out of the water to better help me prepare for this? I need to do really well because this is a large water park and has a lot of participants. Is there some type of workout program I can do out of the water that will help me out? Also should I wear regular trunks to the qualifying or the tight swimming trunks?
I found out its a 300 swim and the brick dive must be done in 1:40 min and the depth is 7-10ft
It’s cool you want to be a lifeguard. You can really just wear whatever. I took the brick test yesterday in my lifeguard training class in school. It was really easy. You just swim out grab the brick and bring it back.
I hadn’t swam since the summer, and i did it in 1.05, the teacher aides are lifeguard, and they did it in 1min so i think you should be fine.
The teacher told us that for the 300, it isn’t timed you just have to continuously swim till you finish.
If you really want to workout, i recommend just running, it will build stamina and endurance and mucles in your legs. Lift weights, and if you can try to go to an indoor pool and do some laps.
Most gyms have them, and there are some locations that just have an indoor pool.
Good Luck, and i hope everything goes well
Hello,
I was wondering if there is a age limit for the class I listed above.
I am 13 years old , and was in a red cross GuardStart class
(a class that teaches basic first aid / CPR skills and lifeguard skills.)
However the class doesn’t certify me. And for people that took the class, any tips?
Thanks ![]()
My local chapter doesn’t have an age limit for that class. I suggest you find our from your local chapter – head to http://www.redcross.org to get contact info.
