Security at the Jomo Kenyatta public beach has been intensified to avert crime as holiday makers tour the facility on Friday. The police have a fully-fledged post to curtail anyone intending to steal from visitors or harass them. The beach attracts huge crowds during Christmas festivities. This year the lifeguards will provide rescue services together with the Kenya Red Cross. Some lifeguards will also keep vigil inside the ocean with the Kenya Wildlife Services patrolling the waters.

Me and my best friend were at the pool in our neighborhood. It was adult swim (lifeguards on break) so we went up to the basketball court which was right beside the pool.We were standing up there wrapped up in our towels watching some girls play basketball, when two guys came in from the entrace and sat down at two seats by pool. .(The seats happened to be right across the pool from our chairs..Just a coincidence though, as the chairs wrap around the whole entire pool.) We walked back down there and my friend whispered into my ear "those guys are looking at us" and she giggled. I just looked up at them and shrugged my shoulders. I sat down in my chair and started looking through my yearbook I brought. I thought the guy looked really familar, so I looked through and found a guy that looked exactly like him. *Chase Morrison. I pointed to the guy’s picture in the yearbook and nugged my friend beside me. I told her "He looks exactly like Chase Morrison." We both looked up and caught them staring. No more than 2 seconds and the lifeguard came back out and called "All swim!" so I put the book away and my friend jumped into the shallow end of the pool. I got up and just sat down on the side of the pool, then got back up and asked her quietly if she wanted to go to the deep end. Around this time, Chase and his friend were coming around and Chase told his friend "I don’t like staying in the shallow end..Lets go to the deep end". Right when he was about to pass me, I turned to look at him and He stopped mid step and held eye contact with me for about 4 seconds. He had no smile on his face, and neither did I. We were just staring into eachothers eyes.He then continued walking to the deep end with his friend, and jumped in. I sat back down on the edge and then got into the pool. Chase and his friend hung out around the deep end just talking and within about 5 minutes the raced to the shallow end and stayed there.By then, they were diagonal from me, within 4 feet away. I was standing towards the edge just talking with my friend (not about them) and we kept staring at the lifeguard and making funny faces at him just to annoy him.I noticed in the corner of my eye that Chase kept looking at us then when I turned to look at him, He looked back at his friend who was right in front of him.I then looked back at my friend. My friend had her head in the direction as if she was looking at the lifeguard so I whispered, "Maybe you shouldn’t stare at him anymore" and she said "I’m not looking at the lifeguard, I’m looking at Chase, and he keeps staring at you." I smiled and looked down. After, Chase and his friend started walking through the water (we where still in shallow, between waist and chest length) and stood right behind me (within two feet) talking to his friend with his back to me and his friend facing me.I didn’t turn around to look at him. My friend already noticed and said "His friend keeps looking, I think he’s talking about you". I smiled, and my necklace fell. I picked it up and held it into my hand..I went up the ladder and sat down in my seat, and he was just staring at me with his arms folded on the edge of the pool while he was still in the pool. I was feeling awkward with him just staring at me like that, so I walked over by the edge (near him) and asked my friend to swim to the deep end and help me with my necklace. So I walked over there, held my nose and just literally walked into the deep end of the pool.I came up from the water and pulled myself up so I was sitting in the corner. No more than five seconds sitting there and my friend was beside me with a huge smile on her face whispering "Oh my gosh Brittany! When you were walking him and his friend both were staring at your butt!" I asked "My butt? What the heck?" Then she said "Well I don’t know but they were staring at you the whole way you were walking all the way until you went underwater…You should’ve seen his head turn and his eyes follow every step you took." I then felt my cheeks start burning, and knew I was getting really red.She hooked my necklace back on and I swam right where the rope was dividing deep and shallow. She went on the shallow end while I stayed on the deep side. Chase and his friend started getting closer to the rope near the deep side and Chase said "Lets go all the way to the deep..I’ll race you to the rope" So they swam to the deep and they raced to the rope..Right beside me..They couldn’t have splashed me any more. Haha. Then the lifeguard called adult swim again and my mom came to pick us up. As I was walking to my momto leave, He was staring at me walking..His head was turning every step I took.
So..Out of all this long information..Do you think he likes me? Advice on how to flirt with him?
haha I read the whole thing and yes he must like you if he is staring at you so much. My advice is you should’ve talked to him long ago. But you’re probably a bit young still and shy. Oh well just talk to him already! Best of luck.

hilarious lol that’s the dogs swingers – cheers
this summer i want to be a shallow guard at a waterpark….. the requirements are that you can swim 50 yds using breast stroke or crawl strokes and be able to retrieve a 10 lbs. weight from 4 ft.
i know i can get the brick, but i’m not sure about being able to swim a breast stroke or crawl stroke…. i am a good swimmer (i waterskii and have a pool) but i doggie paddle….. i know it’s sad
So, do you think i would be able to pass??
also, all life guards are required to go through training with NASCO. would they teach me how to breast stroke/crawl stroke, or is that supposed to already be known….???? what will they teach us?
any advice is greatly appreciated!!
You firstly need to take swim lessons to learn to swim and obtain your swim bronze medallion. Before even ever thinking about doing a NASCO or similar lifeguard training course.
Honestly you would be only placing yourself or any drowning victim at risk, by dog paddling to them. They would probably drown by the time you eventully reached them.
Also dog paddling wont help you, avoid a panicked swimmer or a drowning victims grip. Using you as a way to keep their head above the water. By pushing and holding you under the water or pulling your hair out by the roots or covering you in scratches or kicking and winding you etc.
Being you only know how to swim, just to keep you and your head above the water, by using both your hands. How will you rescue anyone when you can’t swim, using one arm or just your legs to bring a victim to safety.
This is why you need to take swimming lessons and learn different swim and kick strokes and breathing techniques. Before you even think about trying to retrieve and swim with a 10 pound weight or ever rescuing a victim.
Unfortunately you wont pass, unless you take swimming lessons. As courses like NASCO in the USA don’t teach swimming.
They will teach you CPR, first aid resuscitation techniques and how to use lifesaving equipment and devices. Performing rescues in all types of weather and conditions, about public liability etc. Also timed on swim and rescue proficientcy and given written and oral test.
I know standard first aid/CPR and all that jazz!
