Surf Rescue Support Services WA – lead by Cam Obeirne – invited: Archie Kalepa, Supervisor of Ocean Safety Operations for the county of Maui, Hawaii – regarded as one of the instigators of personal water craft as lifeguard rescue equipment, and Legendary Professional Big Wave Surfer; and Mike Slattery, Director of High Surf Rescue, personal watercraft equipment, Haweiwa, Hawaii, to present and run an Advanced Surf Rescue training weekend in Margaret River, four hours south of Perth, WA.

Over three days the guys (and one girl) were put through their paces by the pro’s, honing their skills and learning new techniques. By the end of the weekend the participants were buzzing with the progress they had made and amped to test their new skills and teach others coming through the ranks.

I am 14 and I am turning 15 May 10th. The lifeguard training course I’m taking will end May 3rd. They haven’t seen proof of my age yet because the class hasn’t started but do you know if they’ll kick me out if I am a week off?

YES, they are strict. They have to be. Too many lawsuits have been filed and they have to protect themselves. Wait until you are of age to take the course.

I’m taking the red cross lifeguarding written test on friday and i want to know what i should study? Is it difficult? How much time should i spend studying for it?

Information is below.

during the summer i basicly live at this private beach. now im 16, so i could get a job there. i havent taken swimming classes, so i dont know what the strokes are or whatever, but im a good swimmer in the ocean and all that. so i was wondering, if i could just take a lifeguarding class? or if i would have had to taken the others before… ??

When I went, all that I had to do was pass an initial swimming test.

I’m taking the lifeguarding classes in the beginning/middle of june and i was wondering if once i get my certificate, its too late to apply for a lifeguarding job for this summer. Is July too late too?? THANKS.

I got my first lifeguarding job in early August. I didn’t turn 16 until late July, but they hired me when some of the college kids started quitting for the year to return to college.

I’ve got my test for lifeguarding certification in a couple of days, and this girl doing the course with me will have to lift me over her shoulder and walk like that for a bit as part of the test. Will she be able to do it? She’s pretty fit, but only 5′3 and 105 lbs. I’m 5′9 and 145 lbs.

If you are talking about like a fireman carry then yes, she probably will be able to. You would be surprised at what people can lift like that.
