It will be impossible to get a lifeguarding job without the proper training. I got the BSA lifeguard certificate and I still couldn't get hired at any aquatic center.
References :
I am the Advancement Chair of our Troop as well as the mother of 2 Eagle Scouts and a female Venturer. Both my oldest son and my daughter have earned the BSA Lifeguard certificate and both have been hired as lifeguards with that certificate alone (no Red Cross Lifeguard certificate required). You cannot be hired as a Lifeguard with the aquatics merit badges alone, but having earned them will definitely help you to pass the Lifeguard course which is quite physically demanding and lengthy. I would suggest you call your local BSA council and ask them if a course is being offered in your area now. That way, you could finish the course and find employment for this summer. Most BSA camps offer the Lifeguard course at their camps and that's where my oldest son earned his, but he had to wait until the next summer to find a job. My daughter took the course in the springtime through our local council finishing up the end of May and was employed by June. Good Luck! You sound like you are just what the guards need!
References :
Well, they certainly help. And so do the non aquatic ones, such as E-prep and first aid.

If you really want to be a lifeguard, most scout summer camps offer a lifeguard training program that can get you started. It will take most of your time at camp, but my friend did it and by the end of the week, he was a certified BSA lifeguard.
References :
No, most places require either American Red Cross lifeguard certification or Ellis lifeguard certification. Having all those badges would certainly help pass either of those classes. But just because you can swim doesn't mean that you can pull a 200 lb man out of the water.

Go to redcross.org and type in your zip code to find the closest red cross to you. They can tell you when classes are being held.

The pre-requisites for the American Red Cross lifeguard class is a minimum of a 300 yard swim. I always make it a 500 yard swim. Combination of freestyle and breaststroke. And you have to retrieve a 10 lb brick from a depth of at least 8 feet and swim 25 yards with it. Treading water is not a requirement per se, but I always make it one in my classes. If you can do all that, you can get into a class.

To pass the class there is a written and practical final exam.
References :
I am an American Red Cross lifeguard instructor

Well I'm a boy scout too (only 13 though) and if you have all aquatics merit badges, including swimming and lifesaving (which you will need)
then you can apply for BSA lifeguard!
