What would a lifeguard do in the following situation, please?

Two people are swimming in the deep parts of the ocean. They are far from shore but still in view. It starts drizzling suddenly. The wind picks up and the water starts to churn.

If a lifeguard was sitting there, what would he do? And what would he do if it began to pour and the people are trying to swim back, but are still a bit far from land?

Please tell me if this scenario is realistic at all, and if it is, please describe describe exactly what the lifeguard would do.

I know that this is a strange question. Thanks very much, though!

yeah this is very realistic.

if the swimmers were in trouble and were signaling for help the lifeguard would send out an IRB or use their jet ski to bring them back to shore.

if the sea’s became very rough back up can also be called and if the lifeguards on the beach are unable to get the IRB out past the swell. there are surf patrol helicopters which can be called upon to bring the swimmers into the shore. however this would be in very extreme circumstances.

in the scenario you described it didn’t seem like the people were in any trouble or were struggling at all so i think that the lifeguard might just go out and check up on them first and then if they could see the swimmers needed help them would of course save them!

p.s lifeguards can be girls too!!!!!

On most life guard protected ocean beaches there is a maximum distance allowed to swim out. The life guard would blow his/her whistle and wave them in closer to shore.

If it were also lightning out, they would make everyone exit the water everywhere.

from what you say the swimmers are not in any real danger. the lifeguard would probably not do anything, other then keep an eye on them. If however they ar haveing difficulty and appear to need help, then he would do his best to help them.

Scenario is realistic, althou the deep part of the ocean is out of reach for the lifeguards.

All life guards have an area to patrol, these are set between two flags. If people venture out past these the lifeguard will ask them to come back into the flagged area, if the swimmers dont want to, they are swimming at their own risk.

Althou if the weather picks up and he can see they are struggling to get in, he will generally call for an IRB (inflatable rescue boat), these boats will get to them pretty quick and bring them back safely. If the lifeguard can’t see them but knows they havent ventured back on land they will still search for them

He would call recuse services. Or try and rescue them. It depends if was a storm. My Bf is a life gaurd and does this alot i’ll put him on.

    Hi

the life gaurd would call rescue services(it depends how rough it is) or would take a boat out and try and save them.

He’d blow his whistle to everyone (get out of water!)

Take a boat and two other life gaurds.

    Your question is hard too.

if alot of people are out there on the sand he’d tell them to stay out of the water then save the people in the water. If there are sharks he’d take a stick.

And yes. It’s happened alot to me and its hard especially if there sharks about.

(Ellie) I hope this advice works

    (Elise) yeah me too.
