LIFEGUARDS: What is a fun way to teach swimmers disorienting entries (roll-ins, somersaults and such)?
For my AWSI lifeguard class I have to prepare a quick lesson on disorienting entries, which include somersaults in the water, side rolls from land, and forward rolls from land.
My teacher is really into fun stuff like songs and games,
So if that could be incorporated, or just like an overall theme, or story, or having the kids roleplay or something would be awesome.
Any ideas are appreciated! ![]()
Here’s one:
If your pool does not have a diving board, this can be done off an edge, although do be careful!
Think of the different Entries, and what animal they resemble. For example, a somersault looks somewhat like a Roley-poley (forgive me I’m not sure how that’s spelled) or an armadillo. Lying sideways and rolling into the pool can resemble an earthworm (make them wriggle around and such, more fun!
)
You could make cards with a picture of each animal on them, and the kids could pick a card, and the animal they drew they would have to do a different entry. Try rewards for good form =D
I hope I helped!
