Australian Lifeguard Service – Advanced Surf Rescue

Surf Rescue Support Services WA – lead by Cam Obeirne – invited: Archie Kalepa, Supervisor of Ocean Safety Operations for the county of Maui, Hawaii – regarded as one of the instigators of personal water craft as lifeguard rescue equipment, and Legendary Professional Big Wave Surfer; and Mike Slattery, Director of High Surf Rescue, personal watercraft equipment, Haweiwa, Hawaii, to present and run an Advanced Surf Rescue training weekend in Margaret River, four hours south of Perth, WA.
Over three days the guys (and one girl) were put through their paces by the pro’s, honing their skills and learning new techniques. By the end of the weekend the participants were buzzing with the progress they had made and amped to test their new skills and teach others coming through the ranks.

Is Web Based CPR Training Really Better Than Classroom?

After Roy get’s hit with a severe West Michigan Cold, he remembers how frustrating it was to have to sit in a 4 or 8 hour classroom while being sick. It inspired him to talk about the benefits of self paced eLearning for CPR certification compared to stuffy classroom settings that may not be as effective as some would like to think.

Life guard on duty saved a young girl from drowning. To video the event I used a Sony Cyber shot, HD 1080, 8.1 camera. I was walking closer to the rescue site while recording the rescue.
We’re not talking Baywatch here.
Being a good lifeguard is more difficult than most people imagine. After all, lifeguards do much more than just fish folks out of the water. Most are certified in emergency medical training and are trained to perform cliff rescues, helicopter rescues, and flood evacuations.
In addition, they’re certified search-and-rescue divers, as well as deputized law-enforcement officers.
Lifeguards rely on their instincts to spot red flags. Rip currents are the most relentless beach hazard, so guards constantly scan for sandy-colored waves and currents, dead giveaways that a rip has formed. They study the swimming habits of beachgoers, as well as their clothing (T-shirts and cut-off shorts may indicate the person doesn’t swim in the ocean very often). They also watch beachgoers’ general behavior: Are they confident, timid, unsteady, or overly risky?
